16X16 WLED LED MATRIX

My 8x8 Matrix has been very popular so I decided to upload a 16 x 16 version.

The electronics require minimal soldering and NO programming skills however this version does require more setup in WLED, specificly the Matrix setup and orientation of each panel. Everything can be done through the website.

This uses WLED to run the matrix. The matrix can either be controlled using a ESP8266 or an ESP32.

The parts I used can be found on both Amazon and AliExpress but I ordered them from AliExpress.

This is designed specifically for:

4 - 8X8 Matrix WS2812 LED 5050 RGB 8x8 LED Matrix - AliExpress I like these panels because they are solid. There are also 16x16 flexible panels available but they don't stay in place as well and the spacing between the LED's is bigger on the flexable panels.

You will also require a USB Cable or a USB plug for the back. I've used 2pin USB Type C 5A Input type Charging Socket With LED lights - AliExpress but you can just pass the cable through.

Because this version uses 4 of the LED panels I recomend not powering them from the ESP8266. These will draw to much power. Split the line coming into the houseing and send seperate wires to the panels and to the ESP8266.

The print consists of 4 parts. The case surround, diffuser, mid-plate and back. The mid plate is the only part that will need to be glued into place as long as your tolerances are good. The mid-plate holds both the Matrix and the ESP board in place.

I have adjusted the print speed so that the flow is consistent throughout the print, this way you shouldn’t get any banding.

This was printed in PLA with PETG as a support interface. If you don’t use a different filament as an interface for your supports they will stick. Make sure to adjust your support settings for the type of support you use.

The diffuser should be printed with white on the bottom and a black grid to give the LEDS the best definition and contrast.

The pictures uploaded are actually of my 24x32 Matrix, but the design is the same. The 24x32 needs to be printed in multiple peices to fit on the bed. If there is any intrest in it I can create a new upload.
