Description

I needed a consistent way to space deck boards on a ramp, but I wanted something durable and adjustable (nail depth and side-to-side position) and was easier to use than trying to stick a nail between boards. I had 2" roofing nails, which had the 1/8th inch (3.175 mm) board spacing I wanted, so I printed these spools and inserted the nails directly into them.

The tight fit between the spool and the nail makes it easy to adjust and control the depth of the nail between boards. The shape of the spool makes it easy to handle. The use of the nail allows easy side-to-side adjustment of the boards because the nails around.

I have a few profiles here so you can print singles and groups of 3.

You need to provide the smooth shank 6d 11ga roofing nails, which should have a shank diameter of 1/8th inch.
