Description

I have a Mini AFO automatic fire suppressor ball mounted above my printer just in case something terrible happens while I'm not looking. The ball explodes spreading fire extinguisher powder everywhere if exposed to a flame for a few seconds. This is what I've done to satisfy my worried brain taking my eyes off the printer… It might be a bad idea! I'm not an expert so if you copy me do so at YOUR OWN RISK! I think once covered in the fire extinguisher powder any electrical device will be damaged so this it to protect my shed from a printer fire not to protect the printer.

I didn't like the mount that came with my Mini AFO automatic fire suppressor ball so designed this one in FreeCAD and printed it in PETG (the most temperature resistant material I can print on my printer. A more resilient material is probably a good idea. The design exposes as much of the ball as possible to potential flames and allows you to adjust the balls rotation in the mount easily.

Mine is designed for the mini size, you can also get a much larger ball from AFO. I see no reason why my design couldn't be scaled up to suit that ball though.

FreeCAD file included, you will need the curves workbench add-on to edit.

Designed in FreeCAD 1.1.0dev
