Description

The Ultimate Design Companion

Have you ever been modeling in CAD and you go to extrude a cylinder at 2mm diameter but realize that you have no idea how big that actually is? Have you ever modeled a part and ended up with a thickness that it way bigger than you wanted, or way too skinny and flimsy?

These and similar problems of translating dimensions in your CAD to dimensions in the real world can all be solved if you have one of these on your desk with you!

Want to know how big to make that finger hole? Stick your finger in some holes and try them out.

Want to feel how stiff a wall would be if it is 0.2 in thick? Give it a wiggle.

Want to feel how sturdy a pin might be at 3mm? Give it a wiggle.

Want to see how the sizes translate from mm to inches? Compare them.

The numbers denote the width of the tabbed wall on the inside, the diameter of the pin on the inside, the diameter of the hole through, and the width of the slot on the outside. There are several features that will likely be too small to print, and that is intended so you know where the limit is.

This is a hands-on tool to help any modeler translate between their CAD world to the real world and hopefully have more successful prints on the first try.

As a warning, I made the pins for the hinge fit really tight so it would be permanent. I used vice grips to press it together. I will make a smaller clip and include that when I get a chance in case anyone wants that.
