Description

This is a reusable flosser similar in size, shape, and function to the single-use disposable ones you can buy. Unlike many other printable (and commercial) flosser models, this one can reliably maintain floss tension if you have tight teeth.

Usage

Features

  • Reusable: Just rinse after each use!
  • Adjustable Tension: Reliably and easily get your floss as tight or loose as you want, and keep it that way
  • Tight-teeth Friendly: Provides the consistent tension you need to get in between tightly-spaced teeth
  • BYOF (Bring Your Own Floss): Use with your preferred floss brand*; only requires about 6-7" (16cm) of floss per use
  • Eco-Friendly: Eliminate your single-use plastic waste from disposable flossers, and create less floss waste than most people use when flossing by hand
  • Easier than Hand Flossing: No more struggling to reach those back teeth with your floss-wrapped fingers
  • Drying Stand Included: Keeps the business end off your bathroom surfaces and ensures the flosser fully dries between uses
  • Budget-Friendly: Cheap disposable flossers at my grocery store cost about 3c each, or $11/year when using one per day. By comparison, this flosser costs 15-20c to print, plus the (much cheaper) cost of around 71yd (65m) of normal floss per year.

*Floss made of interwoven strands tend to split apart and fray under tension. "Tape" or “ribbon” style floss is recommended.

Assembly

Flosser

Strongly Recommended: Add a drop of superglue to sleeve's ratchet arm hole (where my finger points in this gif) before inserting the ratchet arm to prevent it from coming out during use.

Case

Add a bit of superglue to the bottom of the latch.

Then insert into the hole in the case like this. Press down firmly for 20-30 seconds and let the glue set for another 1-2 minutes before use.

The hinges for the case parts just press together. This requires some gentle but firm pressure. Do one hinge at a time.

Printing Tips

If you have an AMS you can set the "Print sequence" for the Flosser+Stand plate to “By object” in Bambu Studio to easily print the parts in different colors.

There are two plates for the case, one for AMS printers (with the flosser decal inside it as shown in the pictures) and one for non-AMS printers. There's an extra plate with the standalone flosser decal that can be printed and then superglued to the lid if you don't have an AMS.

Boost Me (for free)

This took months of testing and iterating to perfect the design. Your support via boosts are very much appreciated.

Extra Info

The odd cutout in the back end of the flosser is a custom jig I devised that makes it easy to create a fixed loop (the surgeon's loop knot) in the end of your floss, as shown in the instruction video. This knot is very resistant to slipping even under tension.

It takes a bit of practice before you'll be able to create the loop quickly, but after 2-3 weeks of once-daily practice I could get the flosser ready to use in under 45 seconds.
