Description
The Aircraft
The de Havilland DH.88 Comet, first flown in 1934, was a groundbreaking British twin-engine racing aircraft designed specifically for the MacRobertson Air Race, a long-distance competition from England to Australia. Its sleek, aerodynamic design, coupled with advanced engineering for the time, helped it achieve remarkable speeds and set new standards for aviation performance. The DH.88 demonstrated the potential of long-range, high-speed flight and played a key role in advancing aircraft technology leading up to World War II. On October 23, 1934, the DH.88 Comet, piloted by Charles Scott and Tom Campbell Black, won the race, covering the 11,300-mile route in just over 70 hours. The innovations of the DH.88 influenced the development of later de Havilland aircraft, contributing to the evolution of faster, more efficient planes in both military and civilian aviation.
The Model
This is a lovely model to assemble and should not require any glue. As an added detail, check which direction those propellers turn. That's right… counterclockwise, just like on the real aircraft.
