10/13/2024 - Added a magnetic locking side panels version for (IMO) a superior locking system. It does require additional hardware, but it will last much longer and not wear out like the snapping lock system. I was able to make the snapping side panels wear out by locking/unlocking them 63 times and now they have no friction remaining to keep them closed.
10/09/2024 - Updated the locking system for the side panels and their grips for the deck box. I reached out to @ChappIO to get some help on designing a better locking mechanism and he came through spectacularly - huge thanks to him! Please check out all of his amazing designs and show him some support!
This is a Commander / EDH deck box for Magic the Gathering. This MTG deck box is built as an all in one solution for a deck to include the deck itself along with tokens and accessories. The lid of the deck box also acts as a miniature version of my Commander / EDH Tray too!
There are 2 versions of deck boxes for both the snapping side panels and magnetic side panels: a 100+ version and a 133+ version. The deck box can easily accommodate the following:
- The font of the deck box holds a single (affiliate link) regular sized toploader (the thinnest toploaders available)
- Acts as the front panel when everything is buttoned up
- The inside's bottom can hold 4x Double Sided Counters
- Both the left and right sides on the outside of the box can each hold 12x Counter Tiles
- The entire box can hold a total of 24x Counter Tiles
- The main compartment can hold 100+ / 133+ double sleeved cards (depending on which box you use)
- Roughly the same inside dimensions as a Boulder 100+ (actually ~0.75mm larger!)
- Roughly the same inside dimensions as a Boulder 133+
- The secondary compartment has
- ~15mm of space for the 100+, which can easily hold 25+ tokens
- ~10mm of space for the 133+, which can easily hold 15+ tokens
- The deck box's lid is a miniature Command Zone Tray that has spaces for the following:
- A slot to hold your Commander up while in the toploader
- 1x Life Counter (2 wheel version)
- 1x 16mm d6 die
- 2x 12mm d6 dice (Pokemon dice)
- 3x standard sized d20
The idea for the Commander Tray lid came from Cincinnati Squirrel's awesome MTG deck box design. Also, the inspiration for the counter tiles came from ChappIO's fantastic MTG Winged Counters & Box design. I also really like the grips Cobo used on their MTG Token Box design so I made my side panel grips to be similar to theirs. Be sure to check these designers out as they have some great stuff for the community to download and use!
Additional Hardware
The deck box and deck box's lid require a total of (affiliate link) 12x round magnets (4mm x 2mm), 6x each. These are the exact magnets I used, but I've also linked the same sized magnets from Bambu Lab's store below in the Bill of Materials section.
The magnetic locking side panel version also requires (affiliate link) 20x rectangular magnets (10mm x 5mm x 1mm). Again, these are the exact magnets I used, but the Bambu Lab equivalent is linked below.

Assembly
All you need to do is insert 6x of the round magnets inside the lid and 6x inside the deck box. For my printer, the tolerance for the magnets was perfect and did not need to be glued in. They did take a bit of force to get set in place. If your magnets are loose for whatever reason, use a small drop of super glue to secure them in place.
The magnetic locking side panel deck box also needs 5x of the rectangular magnets inserted into each panel along with 10x magnets (5x on each side) on the deck box (a total of 20x magnets per deck box). These will need to be super glued in place as a friction fit with a rectangular object is not as secure when compared to a circular object.
Be sure to get the magnets' polarities correct so everything is being attracted to each other!
Printing & Usage Tips
- This print requires zero supports - I specifically designed it to be extremely easy to print
- Use the included profile for the easiest printing experience
- There are a set of example side panels and a main lid with generic MTG symbols on them
- I've also included a blank pair of side panels and a blank main lid so you can add your own logos
- Check out my MTG Icon & Symbol Library to easily add logos to your deck box to make it truly custom!
- See the Example Lids and Example Side Panels print profiles to see some of these icons being used!
- The deck box version with the magnetic side panels are intentionally loose as the magnets will keep them securely closed
- The deck box version with the snapping side panels are a very tight at first
- After locking and unlocking them a handful of times (sliding in an out), they start to loosen up
- I've also included a pair of looser side panels along with a pair of tighter side panels if the regular side panels don't work for you
- The deck box's main lid is intentionally loose to allow for easy opening and closing
- With all the magnets, I was not able to shake the lid off - which is great!
