Description

Have you ever scanned an existing flat object with your ink printer/digital scanner so you had an image to make a "Canvas" to work with on Fusion360

Personally yes, and then I realized that the dimensions of the scanned image, compared to the real object, were not the same at all!
So, after several hours of thinking how to be as precise as possible in my 3d print, I said to myself "how stupid, just scan the object with a school ruler next to it and then do the canva's calibration on Fusion360!"

Definitely nothing new for many of you, but: it worked! My 3D print came out precise and sharp as hell!

So, now.. you could continue to use your ugly, inaccurate, bulky, childish school ruler or you can use my 1cm1inch digital scanner caliper
It's designed for both EU and US makers and the “HOW TO” is very obvious:

  1. Scan the flat object with the 1cm1inch caliper next to him

(Note: place it with the flat surface facing towards the plate of the scanner)

  2. Import the scanned image on Fusion360 (Canvas)
  3. Do the “calibration canvas thing" and point exactly the vertices of 2 triangles (0 to 1cm OR 0 to 1inch, it depends on which unit of measurement you want to use)

…and puff! All your canvas area and the scanned object itself are resized to REAL DIMENSION.
Now you can shape your model, print it and perfectly match it!

Note: Its use is intended for Fusion360, I don't really know if in other 3d software the dimensions of scanned object are the same as real size. Scanner setting must be 300 DPI.
