Description
Model of the basilica of Bari, Apulia, Italy. San Nicola Church is located in the old part of Bari. The figure of San Nicola they say is the origin of the modern figure of Santa Claus, whose English name Santa Claus derives from Sinterklaas or Sint-Nicolaas, two names of the saint himself in Dutch, probably deriving in turn from the Latin San[ctus] Nicholaus. Saint Nicholas, not surprisingly, is also traditionally depicted with a long beard and a red robe, in addition to being the protector of children himself.
