Description

At the end of 2017, I found Mike-vom-Mars' hand gestures on Thingiverse (thing:2641409) and decided to use those as a starting point. Some FreeCAD editing was involved; I enlarged the hands so it would fit the 13cm+ body width of my acoustic bass guitar and the guitar neck. First picture shows the FreeCAD design using a guitar design taken from GrabCAD as a reference. Other pictures show the printed hands mounted on the wall in my home studio without and with the guitar. It came out very nice. Maybe add a nice wall painting behind the guitar.…

Prints took around 20 hours for each hand on my printer at speed setting 65mm/sec.

I have printed the same set of hands at 50% size to fit a soprano ukelele. The mounting holes are 50% as well so you’ll need screws with a small head.

Printing

As these are quite large prints and in need of supports you might want to play around with the orientation on the printbed to minimize the support structures to minimize waste material.

I used 0.2mm resolution and the result is smooth and looks great. However some might call it overkill.…

You could also get away with less infill density.

Post-printing

The hand wall mounts have a 4mm hole at the top for a 4mm screw. I used 6mm plastic wall plugs in my brick wall. On a dry wall you could consider some extra adhesive.

The hands are designed for the neck of the guitar to be at a 20 degree angle.

(Be aware: when shrinking or enlarging the design to fit your specific guitar body, check the size of the mountiong holes and resize them to the screws you're going to use)
