Description

My apartment doesnt have the best vent placement to effectively cool the whole room. After some quick searching and not finding exactly what I wanted, I made this. It uses 10x10x3mm magnets in the back (can be glued or just slotted in) as well as one 1.26 inch x 0.2 inch circular magnet in the front. The front magnet takes most of the weight, and is held on by a separate piece that needs to be glued to the duct.

None of these magnets need to be glued into the model!

The dual piece design was due to my printer not being properly calibrated for bridging nor for good supports. Glue to the rescue!

I will include the f3d files if anyone wishes to improve upon the design, it is quite ugly. Granted this is the first thing I whipped up as a sort of test; more refinement will be seen in the future.

Edit (11/21/23):

Version 2 has been uploaded!

  • Angled vent!
    • Air is now directed properly instead of being shot across the ceiling (turns out that doesnt really work for heat)
  • Longer!
    • The model is now 50mm longer to capture more air that comes out of the vent.
  • Two Piece Design (Eh...)
    • This isnt new per-se but the large front magnet piece has been reworked to fit the new width, they are not interchangeable.

Future plans:

  • Make the dimensions parametric for easy customization.
  • Create a better mounting mechanism for the front of the unit.
    • Perhaps swapping the single magnet in the front for two additional smaller magnet slots. This would hopefully maintain the unibody design and eliminate the need for glue.
