Bill of Materials
Description
After noticing a lack of printable terrarium ledges online, I decided to create my own!
*This file has been updated to fit Bambu Lab's CB005 rectangle magnets. The original files (also included) were made for off-brand magnets bought off of a certain e-commerce website that starts with an A. If curious, look at the magnet holder names on the last plates for more information but BE WARNED - the size advertised is not accurate to what you actually get. If you go this route, you may get something that does not fit the holders I designed.
These ledges are for smaller or lighter-weight reptiles such as geckos or garter snakes. They are able to hold the weight of my adult female garter snake (not pictured) so they might work for slightly heavier snakes as well. Once I receive feedback from others, I will be able to adjust my design to accommodate for larger snakes.
3d Printed Parts
- Ledges - Available in small, medium, and large. Magnets are inserted mid-print.
- Outside Magnet Holders - Magnets can chip and terrarium glass can be fragile. I created these Magnet Holders to help prevent possible damage to the magnets or the glass. If you decide to forego the magnet holders and use the magnets directly on the outside of your terrarium, you do so at your own risk!
- I have provided 2 options for the outside magnets. You can print individual magnet holders or a bar that holds the magnets conveniently in one unit. Please choose the option that works best for you. Magnets are inserted mid-print.
Directions for Magnet Placement
Magnets will need to be inserted mid-print. This should happen at the layer before the magnet cavity is covered up. I have already inserted the pause needed in the 3mf file, but please make sure to check this before printing. If the file did not save the pause, you will need to do it manually.
Additional Materials - Magnets
- Medium Ledge - 8 CB005 Magnets (4 for the ledge, 4 for the holder(s))
It is important to note that the strength of magnets significantly decreases when there is material interference. Because of the terrarium glass and 1.6mm of plastic used between magnets, I recommend using the amount listed above. However, you may be able to get away with less. Experiment and let me know in the comments below!
