Foreword

For those who prefer brevity, take note of the first paragraph—it will answer many of the questions I am frequently asked.

Project Purpose

This project is aimed at those who lack the skills to work in CAD programs but still want to create and print a box model to custom dimensions. You won’t find a parametric source file in this project. All you need to do is enter the required parameters in the order form, completely free of charge. If this approach doesn’t suit you, learning to create models on your own might be the solution.

Description of Changes

I’ve updated the box model to simplify the ordering process significantly. You no longer need to specify the offsets for the reinforcing ribs—they are generated automatically based on the width and length of the box. This change was made due to frequent errors arising from misunderstanding the parameters. The reinforcing ribs are now evenly distributed around the box’s perimeter.
I also added two locks instead of one. If the box length exceeds 100 mm, the model automatically adds a second lock for secure lid retention. Both the locks and reinforcing rib offsets are generated automatically.

Limitations

There are certain limitations regarding the box and lid heights. The minimum box height is 29 mm, and the minimum lid height is 12 mm. The lid height is subtracted from the overall box height rather than added to it. Furthermore, any absurd parameters entered will not be processed; such orders will simply be automatically deleted.

How to Order

You can order a box with custom dimensions by following this link . First, check if someone has already ordered a box with similar parameters: STL or 3MF (from this site) and old Boxes STL . All orders are made publicly available not only in STL format but also in aprint-ready format with optimal settings in 3MF format. You just need to slightly adjust these profiles for your printer and filament.

STL File Generation

Now, STL file generation occurs as an assembly. Modern slicers like BambuStudio or Orca, based on the PrusaSlicer engine, allow you to break down the assembly into individual models. You can distribute these models on separate build plates for individual printing or on one plate if your printer's build volume allows.

In my publications, I've repeatedly shown how box assembly works. However, considering that there are newcomers to this project, I've created a separate short video specifically for this project. The video contains no new information but serves as a reminder that the simplest way to get pins for hinges and locks is to cut bicycle spokes. Their diameter is 2 mm, and the length will depend on your box dimensions. Alternatively, you can use suitable pins; links for purchase are provided below.
