Summary

This is a 1:68 scale model of the Trident Nuclear Missile (ICBM) that is launched by US Navy Nuclear Submarines. It serves as the third leg of the famous nuclear triad. This model features a breakaway nose cone so that you can see the nuclear warhead re-entry vehicles from one angle and then just the nose cone by itself from another angle. The nose cone can also be easily removed and put back on at any time, it just snaps on and off.

The whole model snaps together for easy assembly, no glue is required.

Bambu PLA filaments used were:

  • Metal Black
  • Metal Blue
  • Matte White
  • Silk Gold

Follow these instructions for assembly:

The stand is on plate 3 of the first selection of downloads. I use the text feature in Bambu Lab to add the name.

it's great! Printed 4 of these so far and am working on more. I adjusted the nose cone portion on one of them by duplicating rotating and merging the models. One friend of mine wasn't a fan of it and it is for him. if benefit to anyone I can upload the file.

I personally change a bit the way it was on the slicer since I didn't have any color but the print was great and with a good quality very easy to assemble (forgot to rate it before painting it and I'm not a very good painter so sorry if the photo are not very good)

Another awesome model. What is the gold piece in the center?

That's a really good question, every image of the inside of the nose cone has a gold or sometimes copper cylinder in the center that is surrounded by the warheads. In my research for the model I'm not sure I ever learned what it was, but now I'm curious. If I had to guess it might be some sort of exo atmospheric propellant for the upper stage of the rocket or for the warheads.

After doing a little research I came across this bit of info: "...the Trident I (C4) missile payload section at the U.S. Naval Undersea Museum features a "central copper-colored cylinder," which is the third stage rocket motor." So it sounds like the thing in the center is the third stage rocket engine, but apparently its all solid fuel, so not a fuel tank technically.

Ah, interesting. I had wondered if it was something like that or maybe for stabilization.

This one I liked because it shows the MIRV's, should do something like that with a cluster warhead.

Thanks for the boost 🙂. That would be neat, I will look into it -- I do have some cutaway models coming out in the near future coincidentally

Another perfect model. I found the unit logo for the Uss Michigan, Ohio class submarine that carries this missile and used keychain creator to make a badge to go along with the print. Unfortunately, to make it the size to fit on the base I lost too much resolution, I needed the .2 nozzle. On second thought I could just make the missile bigger!
