Description

Catmaw AFV

This is a 1/10 scale model car that is based on a Uro Vamtac. It can be built as a display car or as a body to mount on an RC car chassis. It has been designed to fit on an Axial SCX10 III chassis (Base Camp builder's kit chassis: AXI03011). But can probably be modified to fit other 313mm wheelbase RC car chassis as well.

The model is printable on a 180mm x 180mm printer or bigger.

There is a bom/detailed step-by-step build guide available here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1C0RQWjasO_nurqC2unMMRbtN2DgbeHAVdjavfyd4Yko/edit?usp=sharing

Note. If you are going to be printing the wheels yourself instead of using real rubber wheels/tires you need some extra hardware that is not listed in the MakerSupply BOM. You need 5x M2x6 and 1x M4x25 screws extra per wheel you will print. Self tapping screws are also fine.

Car dimensions

Update history

20.01.2025

17.9.2024.

  • Added a print profile with optional printable wheels that can be used with the display stand, in cases you do not want to use real RC car tires. There are two different looks for the rims to choose from. If you choose to use the printable wheels you need some additional screws. 5x M2x6 and 1x M4x25 screws per wheel you print.

11.10.2024

  • Updated the hood mount part, page 74 in the assembly guide. It now uses M3x6 (or similar self-tapping screws) instead of M3x4 screw as they are more easily available. The old part is still compatible but needs the shorter screws. If you are unsure if you have printed the new or old part you can identify the new part by the the text printed on it. The new part is marked the text “V2”, the old part has no text at all.

17.10.2024

  • Published an van/suv addon for the catmaw. Check the addons section below for more details.

Overview video

Features

  • It has 4 working doors, the hatch at the back can be opened as well and the back can be folded down.
  • Car has been designed with some modularity in mind. E.g the back is built as a module and can be switched out to create different variations of the car. By default it is a hatchback. The module can be switched out so it becomes e.g. a pickup or a van..
  • Car has some interior features, e.g. a dashboard and seats. (Seats might need to be removed if using it as a RC car so the motor/batteries etc- fit.)

  • Front has working lights, using 5mm leds. Alternitively decorative lights can be printed as well if you do not want to use any electronics. Extra led lights can be mounted on the roof as well.

  • Rear lights using 3mm leds.

  • Mountable spare wheels. There are two mounting options. One option is to mount it on the slanted hatch at the back. Ther is also an option to mount it on an a working swing arm at the back. (If using the car as an RC option it might be benficial to skip the second option as it will put strain on the swing arm/mount point if jumping with the car and a heavy spare wheel is attached to it)

  • Roof has a turret/mount point where extra attachments can be added. The turret rotates and can be locked into 8 different directions (using magnets)

  • There is a model stand that can be printed in case you want to put the car on display. Any RC car wheels should fit on the stand as long as they use the 12mm hex hub. 100mm diameter wheels work/look good in my opinion. If you want to use larger wheels you might need make the parts that attaches the wheels to the stand a bit longer so the wheels don't rub the fenders. Or you can let me know in the comments and I can add such parts for that specific wheel diameter. There are also printable wheels included that can be used. If you choose to use the printable wheels you need some additional screws. 5x M2x6 and 1x M4x25 screws per wheel you print.

  • Removable back module so you can switch between different variations of the car e.g. hatchback and pickup or a transport van. Module snaps in and is secured with magnets. (I ran out of magnets so there are missing magnets in the images)

  • It is easy to swap between display stand and an RC chassis. 8 screw need to be loosened.

(The suspension is a bit bumpy/too stiff in the video, I swapped bodies on the chassis to make this short video and the suspension is tweaked for another body twice the weight...)

Other vehicles

For other vehicles in the same theme have a look at the Armadillo, a 4x4 off-road truck that also fits the same chassis. These two car bodies can be used interchangably.
