Cloaked Chess Pieces

Double-sided 2D-style chess pieces which can be used for either traditional chess, checkers, or my new chess variant “Cloaked Chess” (read below for the rules).

Also included is a case for storage with a few different lid options.

The pieces are designed to fit comfortably on a tournament-sized chess board with 2 inch squares. You can either use the printed hinge pin and c clip or an M3x30 bolt and M3 nut for the hinge. I recommend printing the hinge pin without a brim.  It should stick just fine but if not, you can slow things down a little for a better chance.

Cloaked Chess Rules

Initial setup: The setup is just like traditional chess. After the initial piece placement, all pieces are flipped to the blank side.

Game play: Play continues as a normal chess game with the twist that both players have to remember which piece is which. If at any time one player thinks their opponent has made an illegal move, they can challenge.

Challenging a move: If you think your opponent has made an illegal move, simply announce that you want to challenge the move. At that point, the piece in question is flipped over so both sides can see what it is. If the challenger was correct and an illegal move was made, that piece is removed from the board. If the challenger was incorrect and the move was legal, the challenger loses their turn giving their opponent two turns in a row!. Be confident in both your moves and in choosing when to challenge!

This is similar to some online modes where the pieces are hidden, the difference being that online they still give you hints of where a piece can move, so you can find out what a piece is just by clicking on it. With this over the board version, it's just you and your memory.
