Description

This is how it can feel after a long day of studying, teaching or working! Makes a fun decoration for your study space, dorm room or classroom.

  • Designed to hang over a desk, shelf or any ledge.
  • Model is based on my own MRI brain images and is biologically accurate (except for the melting part).
  • Two sizes are available in separate print profiles: 170mm and 90mm tall.
  • Before printing, check the “Printing Tips & Notes” section at the bottom of this page - it includes options for changing infill settings to avoid having to add weights after printing.

Parts

  • A: Left Side
  • B: Right Side
  • C: Pegs (x2)
  • D: Drip Top
  • E: Drip Bottom
  • F: Splashes

Assembly

Glue the two sides of the brain together using the two pegs.
Glue the top and bottom pieces of the drip together.
Use a small piece of string or fishing line to dangle the drip from the end of the brain. Depending on your filament and printer settings, the hole may be narrow. I used an awl to get the string through.
Depending on the surface you'll be setting the brain on, you may need to add some weight to keep it from tipping over. Any light weight can be placed here.

Printing Tips & Notes

  • The interior portions of the brain require supports and can lead to some rough surfaces. This didn't bother me but you may choose to complete some post-processing to clean up those edges.
  • If you'd like to avoid adding weights to the print, you can customize your infill settings as shown below. Just add a modifier to the portion of each brain-half that will be sitting on to of the desk. Then, increase the infill of that portion to 50%.
    • Because this option takes longer to print and uses more filament, I didn't make it the default.
