💁 Info

Sethmet, also known as Sekhmet, is a deity from ancient Egyptian mythology, often depicted as a lioness or a woman with a lioness head. She was revered as the goddess of war, destruction, and healing, embodying both the power to harm and to protect. According to myth, Sekhmet was created by the sun god Ra to punish humanity for their disobedience. Her anger nearly destroyed mankind, but Ra intervened, calming her by tricking her into drinking a mixture that subdued her wrath. Statues of Sekhmet, like this one, were often placed in temples to invoke her protection and healing.
