Description

The Aircraft

The North American B-25 Mitchell is a legendary American twin-engine medium bomber that gained fame during World War II. First flown in 1940 and entering service in 1941, the B-25 was named in honor of General Billy Mitchell, a pioneer of U.S. military aviation.

Powered by two Wright R-2600 Cyclone radial engines, the B-25 could reach speeds of around 275 mph (443 km/h) with a range of 1,350 miles (2,170 km). It was versatile and robust, serving in various roles, including bombing, reconnaissance, and ground attack. The aircraft could carry up to 3,000 pounds of bombs and was armed with multiple .50 caliber machine guns, particularly in later models like the B-25H and B-25J, which featured heavy forward-facing firepower for strafing missions.

The B-25 is perhaps best known for its role in the Doolittle Raid on April 18, 1942, where 16 B-25s launched from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet in a daring bombing raid on Tokyo. This mission, though limited in physical damage, provided a significant morale boost to the United States and demonstrated Japan's vulnerability to American air power.

Throughout the war, the B-25 served in every theater, from the Pacific to Europe and North Africa, adapting to different roles, including anti-shipping, close air support, and even as a transport. Over 9,800 B-25s were built, and the aircraft continued to serve in various air forces well after the war. Its durability, adaptability, and storied service record make the B-25 Mitchell one of the most iconic bombers of World War II.

The Model

This model should go together pretty nicely. I did not need glue for mine, but yours may print slightly different. Pairs great with the stand and custom sign I made here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/588924#profileId-510254
