self-watering plant pot

 

 

There are already some self-watering pots here - but I wanted to have one that didn't look any different from a normal pot. The inner pot here becomes narrower towards the bottom, which allowed me to build a water reservoir into the pot itself.

 

If you ended up here because you like the design of the pot, but you don't need a self-watering pot at all, then take a look at my profile - I'm uploading practically the same pot as a normal pot but with the same design too! :)

 

 

 

 

A self-watering plant pot is a thoughtful solution for any plant lover who wants to ensure that their plants are optimally cared for.

 

Here are some reasons why it makes sense to use such a pot:

 

Consistent water supply:

Plants can get exactly the amount of water they need. This prevents over- and under-watering, which is particularly beneficial for sensitive plants.


Time saving:

The pot significantly reduces the amount of care required as it needs to be watered less frequently. This is ideal for people with busy schedules or for those who are often on the move.


Healthier roots:

Water absorption from below prevents waterlogging, which reduces the risk of root rot and keeps the plant healthier overall.


Efficient water use:

The pot helps to save water as less water is lost through evaporation. This is both environmentally friendly and practical.

Self-watering pots are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and offer a reliable solution for plant care in different locations.

IMPORTANT: Plants vary, and not every species is suited to this type of watering. Please make sure to check whether your plant is sensitive to wet roots before planting. For some species, standing water can lead to root rot – while others thrive with this kind of irrigation. If your plant is sensitive to excess moisture, you can place some stones beneath the soil or use only a small amount of water in the reservoir.

Important notes on printing:

I have uploaded print profiles for different pot sizes.

If you need a different pot size, it is best to download the 100% profile and scale it via Bambu-Studio:

 

But don't forget to apply the same scaling to all objects, otherwise the inner pot won't fit into the pot in the end, which would be a shame ;)

 

Here are a few scaling values for you, based on the 100% profile:

 

IMPORTANT PRINTING NOTE:

It’s important that your printer is well-calibrated – if it leaves small gaps between filament layers, this can obviously cause the planter to leak. Some filaments may also be too brittle and result in gaps. With a maintained and calibrated printer, the result should be fantastic. I’ve personally printed the pot countless times on an A1 and never had any issues.
If you're still having trouble despite proper calibration, increasing the number of bottom layers and wall layers can also help.

To be honest, I wouldn't scale below 65%. I tried 50% and that went very wrong. But maybe you can work it out, then let me know! :)

The flap that covers the inlet hole is relatively narrow - the first 1-2 times you open it you have to use a little more force. I decided to do this because my first flap had a little more tolerance and therefore didn't hold well. By the way, the lid is not absolutely necessary for the pot to work! :)
