Description

[2024-09-20 - Update]

I've added some size variations! There's 2 tall variations, a double wide with tall variations, and two standard sizes that include dividers. There's also an added tray for the double wide bins.

[Introduction]

I wanted a system to help organize my growing screw and small part collection, and thus this project was born. It aimed to address a few of my own personal needs. Mainly, I wanted self contained boxes that I could take with me to wherever I'm working on something. Having a lid and everything to keep things tidy when I'm done, or when they're in transport. I wanted to still be able to store them in a tidy manner back at the storage closet too, so paired them with a Gridfinity compatible tray.

The boxes are sized to provide easy access while providing enough room for a wide variety of small parts. There's a section on the box sized for a 14x40mm label. The intent was for the boxes to be printed with transparent PETG, and to use transparent labels.

The storage tray fits onto the Gridinfity system, and is stackable. Each tray can hold a total of 18 boxes. There's a little wiggle room to help with removing boxes. Otherwise things got a little too tight! The lids should hold well enough to keep secured even while stored in a vertical orientation.

I made spacers to fit my drawer, the boxes are the perfect height for these drawers!

What did you use for the labels?

Brother PTouch Cube printer connected to my computer, with the Brother label software and a little searching for clip art. Various PTouch-compatible 0.47" labels off Amazon for the colors: black on white are socket head; blue on white, cap head; black on body color, nuts or washers.

Great little box - nice tolerances! It is just the right balance of tightness and easy to open. Printed one with white and one with transparent petg. Tip if you are printing with transparent PETG - set it to 50% speed on the printer after you start printing and it will come out much more clear than it would at full speed. My only suggestion would be making the top of the lid not so thick since its 100% infill. No need to have it be so thick.

But 50% speed means more than 3 hours for a box...

there's really no other option to get more transparency. it has to be printed slowly

Nice storage boxes, the four pocket ones keep the lid on tight. Use the corners and wiggle those up and it will open without flinging the screws everywhere. The four section is great but requires a wiggle to open and would print again! Not an issue with the single pocket they are more flexible to open.

Yeah. That's kind of the limitation, because the lid relies on that flexibility. The 4 one can get in the way. I've mostly kept it to the singles or the split one, because of that.

I scaled the 4-box to 99% and the lid to 100% so avoid that issue.

Good! But be careful opening the one with 4 slots, it's really hard to open...

Great little box. just what I wanted. A little and simple box for small things. Printed in PETG, but Im gonna try it with PLA. Thanks!

Have you tried the PLA profile? From my experience it seems the bottom is too thin and very easy to break if pushing it with thumbs.

Hi!. Peripage mini a6 printer. Its a mini thermal printer. With their label paper (but usually most thermal label paper can work, but cheaper ones tend to made it fader, and fade it sooner. Also the label originally a bit larger (52x15mm) so i had to trim them after i place it on the box (with a sharp boxcutter its easy)

I love these cases. I am using them to store in-ear monitors as individual units without cables so the standard box with a divider is a great fit. The standard case without dividers is also a perfect fit for in-ear monitors with ear-tips and cable attached. However, the ones with internal dividers are difficult to open because the divider prevents the side from flexing inwards. I have trimmed 1mm from the ends of the dividers (all the way from top to bottom of the divider) to allow the sides to flex, and they now open as easily as the one without dividers.

@Josheh_3D: They printed very nicely. Great job! Would it by chance be possible to get variations of the subdivders? I thought the tall one seperated in 4 or 6 compartment for resistors would be a nice addition. Maybe the normal ones even in three? Thanks

love these boxes and use them at home and work to organize all the messy drawers. the only issue I have is the curved edges, which really highlight if your printer even has minor calibration issues - but that’s just part of the game

hi, i used the polono p31s label printer. It's thermal so no colors possible but i love being able to print images as well and it ideally fits this model!
