Description

Mini Magnetic Chess Set Fridge Magnet.

Here we have my individually designed magnetic chess pieces along with a magnetic chess board.

The chess pieces are not scaled down in any form but designed from scratch from a Staunton chess set.

Within the design software is a revolve tool, and the idea is is that you import a canvass/image of the chess pieces, then for each individual piece we draw a center line, and using the fit point spline tool in the software we then sketch in half of the piece we are working on, when we are designing we are thinking of how the piece will print, ideally we don't want any supports, so we use fillets to radius any sharp angles, the only pieces that require support are the knights, I used the Snug support option and I printed these separately.

The magnets used in the design are 5mm x 1mm and I opted for black in this case.

For the fridge magnet part I used adhesive backed sheet Magnet, I just cut this to the size that I wanted.

Most of the magnets are a push fit in the board, and mostly push fit in the chess pieces but there were a couple which were not so snug and these were glued in using a touch of CA glue applied with a cocktail stick.

This is about as small as you can go and still use your fingers to play the game of chess, any smaller and you will need tweezers.

A great little project to take on, it worked out really well.

Thanks for Looking.
