Description

This 3D model is based on a MRI scan of my own brain. The raw data (DICOM) was processed using FreeSurfer on Ubuntu, allowing for detailed reconstruction of the left and right hemispheres as well as the brainstem. FreeSurfer enabled precise extraction of complex anatomical structures, which were then exported as individual STL files. These files were further optimized in MeshMixer to smooth surfaces and minimize printing artifacts.

Printing Details:

The brain model has been scaled to 50% of its original size, making it easier to print while retaining essential details. The 3D print file includes four separate plates, two of which are designed with a PLA support filament and Tree-Supports to provide a smoother surface finish at the support points. The other two plates are optimized for printing without support, accommodating different printing preferences.

Explore the fascinating anatomy of the human brain with this unique 3D print, combining cutting-edge technology with personal medical data. For more information on processing DICOM files with FreeSurfer, check out the FreeSurfer Wiki.

Important Printing Information

All plates have been uploaded within a single print profile. Please choose the specific plate you wish to print based on the names provided. The total print time displayed may appear extensive, but it reflects the combined time required to print all four plates. Don't be alarmed by this; simply select the plate that suits your needs.
