Overview

Introducing our versatile and efficient 3D printable Dust Separator, designed to help keep your workspace clean by separating dust and debris from your vacuum or extraction system. This model is ideal for woodworking shops, metalworking setups, or any environment where dust management is crucial.

Features

  • Cyclonic Design: The dust separator uses a cyclonic action to efficiently separate dust and debris from the air stream, reducing the load on your vacuum's filter and prolonging its life.
  • Compact and Modular: The model is designed to be compact and modular, allowing for easy customization and adaptation to various setups and container sizes.
  • Universal Compatibility: With adjustable hose adapters, this dust separator can fit a wide range of vacuum hoses and dust collection systems.
  • Easy Assembly: The model is designed for straightforward assembly with minimal hardware, making it accessible for all skill levels.
  • Durable Construction: Printed with high-quality filament, this dust separator is robust and designed to withstand regular use in demanding environments.

Components

  1. Main Cyclone Body: The central part of the separator, where the cyclonic action takes place.
  2. Snail: Accelerates air and particles in a spiral motion. Debris fall into container and clean air continues to your vacuum cleaner. Inlet and Outlet Ports are designed for high flow vacuum hoses, ensuring best performance.
  3. Top Lid: Securely fits onto the Cyclone Body, providing an airtight seal and allows for easy maintenance.
  4. Intake: Improves performance.
  5. Mounting Spacer: Allows for easy attachment to various containers.
  6. Gasket : Ensures airtight connections and easy assembly/disassembly for cleaning and maintenance. Printed out of TPU.

Printing Recommendations

  • Material: PLA or PETG for strength and durability. I printed it with PLA.
  • Layer Height: I used a 0.6 mm nozzle and variable layer height to ensure the best print time / quality ratio.
  • Infill: 35% for optimal strength without excessive material use. 4 walls.
  • Supports: Minimal supports needed; use support where necessary for overhangs. Only the “snail” part requires supports which are already painted in the 3MF file.

Assembly Instructions

  1. Attach SNAIL to LID: Roughen the contact points with 180 grit sand paper and glue together with Epoxy resin. Add a zip tie around the hose for durability.

  2. Add intake: Attach the INTAKE to the SNAIL from the bottom so it will wtick out into the body.

  3. Assemble the Separator: Press the top lid to the cyclone BODY.

  4. Chose a bucket: Select your bucket of choice, I recommend 10 - 15l bucket with thicker walls. If you use a thinner bucket it may collapse under the negative pressure created inside. In that case, using two buckets will solve the problem.
  5. Mount to bucket lid: Drill a hole into the bucket lid and secure the Separator assembly with bolts and nuts placing the SPACER2 on the under side of the bucket lid.
  6. Attach hoses and test: Ensure all connections are airtight, then test the setup to verify the dust separation efficiency.

Usage Tips

  • Regular Maintenance: Periodically check and clean the separator to maintain optimal performance.
  • Safety First: Always wear appropriate safety gear and operate in a well-ventilated area!

Conclusion

This 3D printable dust separator model is a must-have for anyone looking to maintain a cleaner, safer workspace. Its efficient design and easy-to-print components make it a practical addition to any dust collection system. Download the model today and take the first step towards better dust management!

Works pretty good. A couple thoughts on how to improve this. Supports are a pain to remove and finish quality wasn't great. Doesn't really affect anything honestly so no biggie. The top lid needs to have some screws or something holding it together. I don't really want to glue it together incase something breaks so V2 I would like to see the top sections screw together please. Other than that great model and ofc I had to print it in pink. Nobody going to steal this off the jobsite now 😂
