Description

Hello,

this is my entry for the “Beauty of Mathematics” Contest.

The Idea:

I study mechanical engineering and we just did 3D functions with all their “beauty”. Soon after, I saw the “Beauty of Mathematics” Contest and immediately knew my first project on my new Bambulab Printer.

The Model:

The model displays a 3D function on a frame. The individual parts of the function can be swapped out for others in different colors.

Printing:

I split the model into four plates. The layer height of the frame is not that important for functionality, but I got good results with a 0.16 mm layer height. It is best to print the wave part at a 0.8 mm layer height. 0.12 mm is also possible, but you'll notice the holes won't be round circles anymore and won't fit very well. (I printed them first at 0.16 mm and broke the pin of the frame while trying to remove it.)

I also tried to put all the wave parts on one plate, but one always detached from the bed, causing others to fail as well. I'm not sure if it was due to some settings or something else. So, I split them onto 3 different plates and printed them one after the other.

I also tried printing the wave parts in blue ABS filament. With a 0.08 mm layer height, it printed well. The ABS texture also fits nicely.

Assable:

The wave parts have an increasing number of small ridges from the sides to the middle. You can count these from the sides, from 1 to 5. The middle part (the straight one) has no markings. The ridges are planned to be on the bottom side, but they won’t be very visible if they are on the top.

Future:

I already have some improvements planned:

  1. More functions to display and, if possible, to make the function display variable. But until then, it’s good to see if others share new functions. (The measurements will be added later.)
  2. A frame that can be mounted on a wall.

I hope to get some reviews to make this project better!
