Description

Twistar, Also Known as a Medial Rhombic Triacontahedron

This shape has 12 points. You can think of the 12 points as the faces of a dodecahedron (a 12-sided three-dimensional object). The faces on opposite sides of a dodecahedron are parallel to each other. The tentacle-like parts, when folded and inserted into the slots, form two opposite points of this shape. Five additional points surround one of the main points, and another five surround the opposite main point. Five plus five plus the two opposite points make 12 points in total. The point on one side connects to the five points surrounding the opposite side's point, and vice-versa.

Parts List

A complete set of parts for this shape includes two tentacle-like parts and 20 smaller parts. If you feel like a bigger challenge, you can print 30 smaller parts instead. You'll also need to do this if you are printing on an A1 mini's smaller print bed.

Assembly

A number is printed on the ends of each connector, representing the point number it should attach to. The points are numbered so that the points on opposite sides of the Twistar add up to 13. This means the “1” point and the “12” point (from the two tentacles) are opposite each other. To assemble, connect five of the same numbers together while weaving them. The strips can bend slightly but should remain mostly flat. This may sound simple, but it does not make it easy.

Here's I'm putting one together for the second time. It's a little rambling but hopefully it'll help.
