Description

 Updated Oct25

As requested I've added a simpler, windowless treat container that doesn't require assembly. Despite being smaller it has the same internal volume as the standard container and is well suited to the beaks of medium sized parrots.

These parts are needed to make the treat container and cage mount for my series of parrot maze puzzles. You only need to print these once as they can be used with any of the mazes.

Printing and Assembly

All parts print without support. Printcage_mount_nut.stl with 100% infill for extra strength.

Choose a bright colour for the treat container and use the same colour to denote the exit of the maze puzzles, this may assist your parrot in working out the goal of each puzzle.

It's a good idea to print a clear section in the middle of the treat container, this will allow some light in so your bird can better see the treats inside!

You'll need small piece of clear plastic to make the window in the treat container, discarded packaging is a good source for this. Once you've cut the plastic down to size it is held in place with treat_container_window_nut.stl.

Once finished the treat container should look something like this:

Finished treat container

The cut out in the nut is designed to slot through a bar of your bird's cage, then when the nut is tightened in place the toy is attached securely. This can be attached to either horizontal or vertical bars.

Filament

I use Filamentive's excellent recycled filaments (I have no affiliation):

Plus some random cheap blue stuff from Amazon

Thanks for the print. My macaw almost got to the end before he just forced it out of the track.

thanks so much for sharing, love seeing these in use. That dude has some serious strength! If it helps I trained my bird by first putting the canister close to the exit to get him used to the idea before moving it further into the maze

Replying to @milks808 :
I did do that first. When he pulled it out he had pushed the wrong direction and then got impatient. It is definately his problem not the build! I am just glad I can print and re-print. He goes through toys as you can imagine.

I’m confused about how the treat container works and about assembly in general. I have translucent filament— am I able to use that to print the window rather than adding on some other sort of plastic? Will this still work properly if I try to scale down these and the maze part proportionately? Thanks

I'll upload a version without the window as I think it has limited use - it's much better get your bird interested in the container by filling it with some treats with them and letting them take them out a few times before using it in the puzzle. Once they associate the container with treats they'll happily interact with it, no need for the window. You can scale the puzzles down but the tolerances are quite tight, you may have to sand/file the parts so that they fit together well

Hi, I also cannot manage to put together the the disk and the maze. Do I need to do something with the little cog?

@gb.catrinoiu Did you figure out the cog? I'm having the same question. @milks808 I'm wondering if the cog gets screwed inside the treat container? If so, I wonder if I need to reprint the treat container? Are my threads flawed? This looks rad and I'd love to use it for my quaker parrot!

Hey - the part where the disk attaches to the cage attachment piece, is this meant to lock somehow? Or intended to be glued?

Nothing needs to be glued, the square section slots into the disc, when a maze is fitted it will hold it in place. Keeping that as a separate part allows the puzzle to be fitted to either vertical or horizontal bars. Hope that helps, let me know if I can help further 🙂

the printing was perfect, but my frustration too, the sharing is small and I didn't understand how it works
