Description

Print-in-place articulated Tiny Owl!

My smallest design up today 😁
Keychain version included!

Considerations:

  • It's small and articulated. That means that good bed adhesion is required. For tricky filaments that usually have worse adhesion I recommend using some kind of glue (my personal favourite is 3DLac spray).
  • Because of its size, I recommend printing them at 0.16 mm layer height. 0.2 mm should work as well.
  • It has a small built-in brim for the wings. Easy to remove after printing.
  • It has a couple of support dots in the armpits to help stabilize the wings during printing. It may feel a bit hard to open the wings on the first try, but should be loose after that.
  • To change colors easily, check my quick tutorial.

EDIT: After several requests, I've added a version with a larger gap for the head articulation. You can find them with the suffix “XG” inside the extra gap folder and the profiles.

Looks amazing! 🥰 May I ask what filament you used for these colors?

I did a FULL plate using a rainbow gradient! I think this one was a sample spool... similar would be Polymaker's Satin Rainbow Gradient https://us.polymaker.com/products/panchroma-gradient-satin?aff=625

Thank you so much! I actually thought of Panchroma when I saw the gradient, but I couldn’t find the exact color combination. Your idea with this filament was wonderful — it looks absolutely stunning printed this way! Kudos to @mcgybeer for the model — it’s absolutely amazing! Thanks again for the tip!

these turned out very nicely. I printed some snowy owls for my wife’s preschool classroom. she will give each of her students one of these along with a Nat Geo owl book for Christmas. thanks for the great file with all the different printing options! I printed in polymaker matte white and esun pla+ gray. also scaled the model up by about 50%

Worth every last Bambu poop! Super cute, and printed with fantastic quality. I’ll definitely be removing the wing brims next time, as they were a pain to remove, but otherwise perfect!

hi was wondering if in the XG version, it's possible to put a dot on the base to stop the head from rotating? had some success and some failures with it (but the normal version's head can't spin for some reason).

The head rotates, although you need to manually rotate it after printing; it's initially stiff but functional My print was successful, I hope yours will be too 🦉

Cool! Printed a couple hundred for the elementary school kids (it looks like their mascot). ~10% failure rate when printing in high quantity due to bed adhesion early and late in the print.
