Umbilic Torus Statue
Print Profile(1)

Description
The umbilic torus, or umbilic bracelet, is a single-edged three-dimensional shape. The single edge traverses the ring three times before returning to its starting point. This shape also possesses a single external face, and its cross-section forms a deltoid. Helaman Ferguson created the sculpture titled “Umbilic Torus”. In 2010, it was announced that Jim Simons had commissioned an Umbilic Torus sculpture to be installed outside the Math and Physics buildings at Stony Brook University, near the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics.

I used to work there and passed by this statue every day. This model is my best attempt to recover this statue.

Fuzzy skin is used in Bambu Studio as an attempt to mask the layer lines, which works out pretty well in my opinion. The model can definitely be printed without fuzzy skin. There are texts on the base of the statue but at the default size, they are not legible unfortunately. If you enlarge the model they should show up in the print. A little bit of support is used. The support underneath the torus can be a bit hard to remove. I used a small tweezer and it worked very well.
