Description

I needed a cable gland for a project, but the designs available weren't sturdy enough, so with a lot of thought I came up with this design. It can be printed without supports, although I do suggest keeping them, the design uses TPU for the sealing surfaces, I recommend printing the TPU plate first, as it will take a while to cool down from other higher temp filaments (PETG in my case) used for the structural parts.

NOTE REGARDING THREADS:

  • If you change the size/diameter of the threaded parts, you need to re-define the threads in Fusion, the threads cannot be parametrized.
  • If going for smaller threads, keep in mind the Loosening_Distance parameter may mess them up to a point where they disappear.
  • These threads need to be fine tuned to fit your pre-existing electrical box.

turned out really nicely, unfortunately it’s too big for the project I had in mind

Hi. Noob question; How is this parametric? It's just an STL with no source model file of any kind. Confused.

there should also be a fusion 360 file, that file is completely parametrized.

I almost had a heart attack looking for the STEP and Fusion files and not seeing them anywhere, but they are actually under the STLs. For some reason, even if my design doesn´t have any STL files the option is there, and what´s under that option are the original files I uploaded. So, do keep in mind that the threads can´t be parametrized in Fusion, so you need to re-define them any time you change the diameter of the gland.

Ah! STL/*CAD* files. Silly me. Thanks!

Did you print it as is?

Yes, but I only printed the non-TPU Parts as I just needed a way to get some cables thru a sharp metal box for indoor use.

Ah, makes sense, glad it helped you

Thanks for this, however increasing the Hex_radius seems to break it

Never mind I fixed it. Just needed to edit some of your sketches and constrain them etc. thanks again.

I don't quite remember the parameters but if you mess with the treads, you have to re-generate them

I would like to print a female thread to screw this into. I cannot load the fusion parameters without a subscription. Can anyone provide the thread standard?

Hey, sorry to hear that, you shouldn´t need a subscription, I didn´t use one for the design. In any case, if you want the thread used for the gland as is, it´s ISO Metric Profile, M22x2, 6H. I would still offset the faces of the thread a little bit so it catches less.

I wouldn't know as I never print with any other material.
