Description

I love Van Gogh's Starry Night and wanted to find another reason to use it, so I decided to work with the piece to make a Double and Single Light Switch Cover.

I altered the art image in order to get the tree image and the moon to fit.

The sizes are about the size of mid sized light switch covers.

The back and front are printed separately and need to be glued together. I like to use clear Gorilla glue. I like to glue it, let it dry, use a deburring tool to clean all the edges up, and then a torch to clean up where I did the deburring. Helps bring the color back when it gets a white tinge to it.

Color Changes:

  • Layers 1 - 23 : Black
  • Layers 24 : Earth Brown (Polymaker PolyTerra Matte)
  • Layers 25 : Navy Blue (Polymaker PolyTerra)
  • Layers 26 - 27 : Blue (Inland Egyptian Blue)
  • Layers 28 - 29 : Light Blue (Inland)
  • Layers 30 - 32 : Savannah Yellow (Polymaker Matte)
  • Layers 33 - top : White

Design also used for my Fine Art Coasters.

THANK YOU for this gorgeous model!!! I printed the two switch plate for my bathroom, and it turned out perfectly. When I held it up to the light switch, however, I realized that I hated still having one gold plate color, as I hate the color gold. Somehow, with both plates gold, I barely noticed it, but with two, it stuck out to me badly!! So, I added negative spaces to the single switch plate in Bambu Studio to make a plate for the two plug outlet next to my light switch in my bathroom 🥰. It turns out I had a bad PTFE tube from lots of sparkly printing for Christmas gifts, & even tho I thought I had fixed it when it said it failed to extrude, somehow the brown layer just…didn’t print. I do appreciate the detail the brown adds, but I’d already had to reprint a few times because I didn’t have the negative spaces for the holes in exact places, so I opted to leave it as is. I didn’t figure out the bad tube until it had printed, but who knows, I may change my mind someday & reprint.

Those are fantastic! I've had requests for outlet cover cutouts. I really should just go for it. I keep dragging my feet on measuring and adding those.

This was fun to print and looks great! I printed it on a snapmaker U1 putting a pause in as the 4th color started and then swapped out the 1st three colors for the correct colors telling the slicer to use those first 3 slots again for the last 3 sets of layers.

Hi! So, if you need to do more than 4 colors and have just 1 AMS, what I have done is I set the four slots to the first four colors, then I just start the rotation over again, so the 5th color I would say is in the first slot and after it finished printing the first color, I would swap out the rolls on the AMS. It does take more work and you need to pay attention to the print so you swap the colors out on time but it is certainly doable. I did it once with like 9 colors and 1 AMS so I had to change all the colors once and some of them twice. Hope that all makes sense!
