Description

An animated desk light referencing the 1999 classic Asheron's Call. This model wasn't originally created to share out and it's rough/imperfect in places. Some adjustment will be needed to work with any components you're using.

Parts & Assembly

Surface

  • Lifestone.stl: .2mm layer height, 2 wall loops, 0% infill with tree supports
    • An opaque PLA works well to soften/disperse the lights from the LEDs
  • Lifestone-base.stl: This piece supports the lifestone and should stay in place with friction. Be sure to have the SlipRingSupport and this base in place before soldering on the LEDs.
  • SlipRingSupport.stl: This element is sized to fit the slip ring listed in the part section - 2 wires can be fed through and soldered to 2 LEDs (facing opposite directions ito get 360º of light)
  • Base.stl: I chose to print this in the pictured orientation with supports for the cavity holding the electronics.
  • Lifestone-pillars.stl: These are separate files so that they can be easily painted and then just glued onto the base.

Mechanical

  • SlipRingSupport.stl: As describe above, make sure the slip ring is in place before attaching this part.
  • SlipGearHolder.stl: Two bolts can be used to secure this in the pace - cut off the head of the bolts and glue them into the base for an easy way to take these parts on/off as needed.
  • Motor-Gear.stl: This is sized to fit the motor listed with spots for bolts/screws to secure it in place.
  • The battery pack is held in place by the small plastic arm.
