Description

After not finding a great spool roller that would fit a variety of spool sizes, I decided to come up with my own. After a few ideas and a couple iterations, I came up with this one!

It works with spools from 100mm diameter to 300 mm diameter (1kg spools are typically 200mm). This is tested to work with PolyMaker 1kg, 3kg, and 5kg spools, all while ensuring the roll stays at a good tangent angle to the wheels, preventing the spool from being pulled off. Printing 2 separate rollers allows for different spool widths, all while allowing for a small footprint when not in use.

I've successfully printed using both cardboard and plastic spools without any issues.

No supports are needed when printing. I have models for both M3 and M4 hardware.

Note: Pause the print during the Filament Wheels, and insert the bearings for a glue-free assembly (layer 71 with .2mm layers, adaptive layer height will change this layer number).

Other than the printed parts, you will need (per base, and you will want 2 bases for a spool):

  • 2 x M3/M4 x30 SHCS Bolts
  • 2 x M3/M4 Nuts
  • 2 x 608rs bearings
  • Superglue (If you use the TPU grip feet)
