Description

Sample video:

My FB feed started to show me all sorts of bird feeders including some commercial options that had built in cameras. I decided I had to create my own version. It's all parametric so you can modify any of the sizes using OpenSCAD but the defaults work for both my WyzeCam v2 and v3 cameras. The white parts are PETG and the clear(ish) is polycarbonate but any outdoor-appropriate filament should be fine. It is designed so that you install the housing using screws and then the feeder/perch section lifts off for filling. In some of the clips I've uploaded, you can see everything bouncing around quite a bit… those are from version 1 which allowed the squirrels to eventually bounce the feeder/perch section off of the housing. Version 2.2 doesn't allow them to do that.

The first camera I modified after watching this clip:

But I ended up not using the focus ring and just adjusting the lens and reassembling. Below is my video of how I modified my 2nd and 3rd camera; modify your own camera at your own risk.

The “cam housing test” file is provided in case you want to print just the camera housing to make sure your camera will fit (you have to take into consideration the bend in the USB cord).

Love this design for Wyze cam v4!! Added holes and ramp to base to eliminate water puddling.

Did the Wyze v4 fit in the original design or did you have to modify to make it fit?

I'm brand new to printing PETG so I had some quality issues but I am sure it was my settings. All in all looks great and can't wait to see the visitors!

perfect fit, very sturdy even loaded with feed. got these two shots within the first hour. I was very thrilled. literally could not be happier with how this turned out if you ever make any updates, the only thing I could think of that would make it better is a way to temporarily secure the two parts together such as a clip or something built-in. My only concern is the wind will take away the tray part when it’s low on feed.

Is there a "sample video" of it in action missing from description? I printed both parts from the 3mf file in download but the bottom part doesn't seem like sits well and if heavy bird of squirrel got on it the bottom would fly off. How would I know if I have the v2 version?

I'll try to upload a video of it in action but it really just sits there. I only uploaded the "version 2" that has been working without issue since March 2023. Even when almost empty, I haven't had any squirrels get it off of the housing (one of the fixes I implemented in version 2 since I did have that issue in version 1).

I took short videos of two of my feeders when I filled them back up and reconnected them to my new wifi. https://youtu.be/l-pCa7v594w?si=BCMP07sG3PGb2jVm https://youtube.com/shorts/Pt2ibAsnmXU?si=F0y3d3uyDU8dRKV1

Yes, I created it before MakerWorld launched so I rarely kept any of my .3mf files around. If I make a 4th birdfeeder, I'll be sure to upload the print files; for now, it's just the raw .stl files. Sorry!

Is the description missing the 2nd video showing how you did it for 2nd/3rd camera? Assume v2 not v3 Wyze Camera? Thanks!

Weird! It imported the text before and after as well as the other video. https://youtu.be/TgNIkjqk360?si=gfy-8eDyTkT_c7LT
