Description

This compact soldering Fume Extractor uses a 80 mm fan and can be powered via USB-C. With the right cable, you can even power it from your phone! The carbon filter can very easily be replaced.

Needed Hardware and Electronics:

Basic Assembly and Printing Notes:

  • the screws thread right into the plastic (no inserts), don't over-tighten them!
  • it is best if the filter tray is printed with a durable filament like PLA-CF or PETG
  • no supports are needed
  • The screws are not pictured in the Assembly Guide

Assembly:

Start with the part Head main.
Slide the fan into position. Route the fan cable through the hole before doing so.

Attach Head Front and secure it from behind using

4 M3 x 30 screws.

Cut the carbon Filter to size and place it into the Filter Tray.

Slide both into position. you should hear a click.

Set the Connector onto the Base Top.

Make sure the bridged surface of the base is reasonably smooth.

Route the wire through the connector to the case.

Set the head onto the connector and secure all three parts using 2 M3 x 30 screws. They are attached from below.

Attach the USB-C breakout board to the base using

2 M3 x 6 screws. The USB-C plug is facing down in this picture.

Solder the fan wire to the breakout board (VBUS and GND).
Attach the bottom part of the base using 2 M3 x 10 screws.

If you want, you can now glue in the two rubber feet.

The DXF files for laser cutting are available, or you can print them out of TPU.

And with that, your new Fume Extractor is complete :)
