Description

Model Info

This model was created using photogrammetry. Around 80 Photos of a real horse skull were taken with an iPhone 12 Pro Max main camera lens and a turning table and then combined into the 3D model using the “Object Capture” command line tool by Apple. The result on the outside and any more “open” parts of the skull is amazing, but it lacks a bit of detail in the inside of the skull where pictures could not be taken from every angle.
The model was not edited besides removing the turning table from it.

The Print

The shown print was done using an A1 mini. It worked very well but the print profile can be improved for better results.

The following parameters were used but not ideal:

  • Bambu Textured PEI Plate
  • Bambu 0.2mm stainless steel nozzle
  • 0.10mm Standard profile
  • variable layer height activated
  • Arachne wall generator
  • 4 walls, thin wall mode
  • 10% grid infill
  • auto tree supports (nor recommended)
  • only support critical areas activated
  • outer brim 5mm

I am still working on a good print profile. The print worked, but some parts did not turn out very well and a some cleanup was needed with tweezers. definetly a challenge to optimize this one.

Our findings and possible improvements so far:

  • The overhanging area between front and back teeth definetly needs a support, otherwise it can easily fail.
  • The supports need “support wall loops” set to a higher number. The shown print was done with 0 but one support broke off and another one sagged visibly.
