Description

Boost Me (for free)

If you found this model useful, consider boosting me to help support future projects!

This is a dust collector quick connector for 4 inch ID hoses, inspired from the Rockler Quick Connect.

I tried the various magnet-based quick connectors and find them to be cool, but too easy to get disconnected (not enough magnetic hold), especially when the pipes are somewhat heavy and stretched/at-an-angle.

Friction fit is the best interface.

Features:

  • 2.5 degree interface angle with 40mm mating surface: loads of grip
  • fits 4in ID hoses, eg, the diameter of the printed connector is 101.6mm (tested fit with Lee Valley 4 inch polyurethane dust hose)
  • swivel joint - allows the pipe to rotate freely at the joint

Included Components/Adapters:

  • SawStop Jobsite Saw dust port (65mm/2.5inch OD port)
  • Extension swivel - extend any number of 4in ID hoses with the hoses freely rotating on its own
  • Wall hanger for quick connector - holds the whole thing upright and pipes neatly out of your way
  • more will be added in future as I expand my dust collection system

Print Instructions:

  • Fits Bambu Labs x1c/p1p/p1s printers
  • note that the files often contains multiple objects, model viewers shows the assembled version. Set your print plates accordingly
  • Generally speaking:
    • 0.4mm nozzle
    • ABS or PETG preferred for strength, PLA works too. Be careful with ABS shrinking, this is dimensioned exactly
    • 4 perimeter
    • 15% infill
  • Quick Connector settings:
    • Print with the interface opening facing down on the build plate, angled 45 degrees (see pictures)
    • Tree support, 40 degree threshold angle
    • 10mm brim
  • Wall hanger settings:
    • horizontal on mounting interface
    • support enabled, make sure the rods are printed horizontally and not vertically (for strength and layer adhesion

Assembly:

  • glue the swivel holder to the main body with the hose connector inside
  • be careful to not glue the hose connector

Interface dimensions to design your own adapters:

  • ID 48.30mm (4inch ID hose - 2.5mm wall thickness)
  • thickness start: 1mm
  • 2.5 degree angle outwards
  • 40mm length of interface
  • (revolve tool around axis in fusion 360, should be extremely easy to replicate)

Included the Fusion 360 files

Changelog:

  • Oct 17 2023 - added wall hanger for quick connector
  • Oct 16 2023 - added swivel extension, refactored designs into components and cleaned it up

Printed great and went together well. I used PETG-CF in brick red and white PETG for fittings.

Do you have a print profile that is functional for this print? I can't seem to get it aligned appropriately to print on my X1C.
