Description

This is an adaptation of TrocheHole's dual ring bottle opener, modified to open two different size bottles while maintaining the leverage of the dual ring design.

This remix came about to help someone with chronic wrist/thumb pain. I needed an extra large opener for a 40mm cap (typical on juice and sports drink bottles) and also one for Silk milk cartons which requires a very small size, then got the idea to combine the two. It took quite a few prototypes to dial the sizes in.

The included file has six plates, all of which have the 40mm XXXL as one half of the design. For the other half, the first plate has my extra extra small Silk opener while the rest correspond to the sizes TrocheHole included (Medium is 22mm and they go up or down 0.2mm from there). The medium and small work great on milk and juice cartons I have in the house, but specific caps can be a bit different from one another.

One other change I made is I reduced the height from 14 to 12mm, works fine for everything.

Model printed very well. But I cannot find a bottle cap size that this will open. Maybe because I am in the USA & this was designed elsewhere, not sure.

Small differences in cap sizes can matter a lot. I primarily wanted it for Silk almond milk cartons, which have smaller caps than orange juice or other milk cartons. The large size *should* work on large bottle caps that often come on juice bottles, but it may depend on the specific brand. Adjusting the scale of the closest size may fix it for you, unfortunately there's no total guarantee without some trial and error.

It seems difficult to design it yourself to match the serrations of a plastic bottle. I gave it as a gift to my mother, whose grip strength has decreased with age

We printed plate 3 (SM-XXXL) in PETG. It fits American 20oz soda bottles on the small side and half gallon plastic juice jugs on the other.

Love the design/changes! Any chance you could share the step file? I'd like to adjust this to fit a few specific bottles. After printing all 6.. unfortunately, none fit a few of the bottles Id like to use them with. Medium fits coke/pepsi/some water bottles perfectly. I'd like medium on one end but be able to easily adjust the xxxl side to fit smaller and larger caps. If not, no worries. Maybe one day I'll learn to create something like this from scratch myself. Thanks for sharing!
