As spring unfolds its vibrant colors and invites us outdoors, protecting ourselves from the sun's rays becomes paramount. With longer days and brighter skies, exposure to harmful UV rays increases, making adequate sun protection a top priority for outdoor enthusiasts.

Wearing a hat is an effective way to protect yourself from harmful sun rays, but it can be inconvenient to carry when it's not sitting on your head. This is where the CapClip steps in. A fusion of a carabiner and clip design that enables you to transport your hat everywhere hands-free by securely attaching it to your gear whenever you are not wearing it.

I designed, printed, and tested more than 20 variations until I arrived at this version. The model is split into 3 parts so that every part can be printed in the best orientation for strength.

The final form is the result of lots of testing

Theoretically, it is better to print the clamp piece in PETG, but I have been using a PLA version for a couple of weeks without issues. Choose the appropriate STL for the material you want to use. They are tweaked for the right clamp force. On my print profile, the first plate is for the PLA clamp, and the second is for the PETG one.

It can be a little tricky to assemble, but that's because the clamping mechanism needs to be strong enough to grab the piece with confidence. Here is gif of how I do it:

That's it! Happy printing!

Do I simply scale everything down to 50%? Or do I have to be careful about something? Or could you provide your print profile? Assuming that such a thing would work here

I just scaled it down and it works good printed in PLA. My guess is that it will last longer if printed in PETG.

Printed perfectly in Bambu PETG, PETG-CF, and Prusament. Surprisingly strong grip. I use one to hold my work gloves onto my belt. Very useful, thanks!

Just beautiful! Great design. Printed the round part in Bambu PLA CF and it is almost to strong to bring the parts together 😅.
