Description
I saw a video about a commercially available bandsaw pen blank cutting jig that allows you to accurately cut a pen blank measured directly from the length of the tube. I figured I could save the money and build my own out of scrap plywood and a simple 3d model for the important jig parts.
In addition to the modeled parts, you'll need:
- A miter gauge or miter bar
- Dimensionally stable wood, such plywood, mdf, or hardwood. I made mine from a 4" x 14" piece of ½" plywood.
- Wood screws
Assembly is straightforward and is demonstrated in the attached photos. This video demonstrates the assembly of the commercial jig and how to use it.
Tips:
- Cut through the wood platform for a zero-clearance reference edge.
- Line up the jig 1/8" of an inch from the zero clearance reference edge for a slightly oversized blank.
- I used BWolfey's model of the Zero Play Guide Bars for my jig
