Description

Improved three piece foosball that is solid TPU and added a penny to achieve the desired weight of a Tornado foosball.

Summary:

A foosball that is as close to an actual Tornado brand ball as anything on any 3D Print website... even closer than my previous version. Printed solid with TPU with an inserted penny for additional weight. The diameter is the same as a regulation ball but the weight is within 0.4 grams when glue is added to adhere the three pieces together.

Print Settings:

  • Engineering Plate
  • Quality Tab: TPU, 0.4 Nozzle, 0.2 layer heights, random seams, arachne walls
  • Strength Tab:
    • Process Objects:
      • Foosball Half - 12 wall loops
      • Foosball Center - 6 wall loops
    • Global Process: 100% infill, 5 top shell layers, 5 bottom shell layers
  • Speed Tab: Adjust to your TPU settings
  • Support Tab: Support enabled, normal support/default with 45* threshold, build plate only
  • Other Tab:
    • Process Objects:
      • Foosball Half - fuzzy skin on contour
        • Fuzzy skin turned on because Tornado regulation foosballs have a nap/texture to improve ball control.

Add a pause on layer 45 to insert a penny into the Foosball Center piece for additional weight

Assembly:

Glue the three pieces together using super glue and a clamp. Wipe off any glue squeeze out.

Playability:

Plays surprisingly well for a 3D printed ball. TPU is very rugged and can take the beating that a foosball receives. Ball control is improved over version 1 due to the sphere being split in half and not having any overhangs on the ball exterior when printing. I am able to pass, tic tac, and shoot fairly well with this ball. The bounce is slightly less than that of a real ball but its close. This is not for professional level players but it is definitely better than those cheap plastic soccers ball or smooth balls the come with cheap tables.
