Overview

A soldier who witnessed history and was changed by it.

This is a 3D-printable statue of Longinus, designed for the Heavenly Guardians Series. The model portrays St. Longinus as the Roman soldier traditionally believed to have pierced the side of Christ during the Crucifixion. Strong proportions and print-friendly geometry help preserve the historical details while minimizing fragile failure points.

Whether displayed in a home, office, or prayer space, this statue serves as a reminder that even a single moment can transform a life.

History of the Object

According to Christian tradition, St. Longinus was the Roman centurion or soldier present at the Crucifixion who pierced Jesus' side with a spear. After witnessing the events surrounding Christ's death, he came to believe that Jesus truly was the Son of God and later embraced the Christian faith.

Tradition holds that he spent the remainder of his life proclaiming Christ before eventually being martyred for his faith. He is remembered as a powerful example of conversion, courage, and redemption.

What People Traditionally Keep This Statue For

People commonly keep a St. Longinus statue in their home for prayer or reflection related to:

  • Conversion and renewal of faith
  • Courage to follow Christ despite opposition
  • Forgiveness and redemption from past mistakes
  • Strength during life's turning points
  • A reminder that no one is beyond God's mercy

For many, St. Longinus represents the hope that a life can be completely transformed through faith.

Supports & Removal Notes

  • Fine details may include the spear, hands, facial features, armor, and cloak
  • The spear is the most delicate feature
  • Supports may be required depending on orientation and slicer settings
  • Remove supports slowly and carefully, especially around the spear and hands
  • Avoid twisting thin parts free clip supports away gradually

Taking a little extra time during cleanup helps preserve the finer details.

Scaling & Strength

  • Upscaling (125%–200%) significantly improves the durability of the spear and other fine details
  • Larger prints provide stronger layer adhesion and sharper detail
  • Smaller prints increase the chance of delicate accessories breaking
  • For display pieces, a larger scale is recommended for both strength and visual impact

I'm also trying this model in marble PLA, which gives it the appearance of a carved stone statue.

Important Notes

  • Decorative and devotional use only
  • Not designed for rough handling or outdoor use
  • Standard PLA may deform if exposed to prolonged heat or direct sunlight
  • Handle carefully after printing, especially around the spear

Usage & Licensing Disclaimer

  • Free to print for personal use
  • Selling physical prints or making a profit requires a commercial license
  • Redistribution or resale of the digital file is not permitted
