Description

Fully Parametric Custom Speaker Grills

If you are into car audio fabrication, custom speaker builds, you know that finding a grills with the exact diameter, thickness, and hole spacing you need is a massive headache.

As a dedicated car audio guy, I build a ton of custom grills for subwoofers, door speakers and cooling vents. Tired of fighting with basic 3D shapes in Tinkercad every time I needed a slight size tweak, I coded this fully parametric generator in OpenSCAD. Now you can customize and download the perfect grille in seconds!

🛠️ What Makes This Model Awesome?

Unlike static STL files, this model is 100% parametric. Using MakerWorld's MakerLab / Parametric Model Maker, you can adjust everything on the fly:

  • 3 Distinct Mesh Patterns: Choose between Honeycomb (classic hex), Grid (clean square mesh), or Circles (staggered bubble pattern).
  • Fully Adjustable Outer Rim: Dial in the exact outer diameter, rim width, and total thickness.
  • Smart Mounting Holes: Set your screw hole count (from 0 to 24), hole diameter, and edge spacing. The code automatically spaces them symmetrically!
  • Custom Edge Chamfers: Add a smooth 3D chamfer to the top, bottom, or both sides of the outer rim to give your build a highly polished, professional finish.

🎛️ How to Customize Your Grills

  1. Click the Customize button here on MakerWorld.
  2. Main Dimensions: Put in your target outer diameter and desired plate thickness.
  3. Pattern Settings: Swap between honeycomb, grid, or circles, and adjust the cell size and wall thickness to control how "open" or "dense" the mesh is.
  4. Chamfer Settings: Set your chamfer size (e.g., 1mm or 1.5mm) and choose where you want it (e.g., select top to give your mounting screws a slightly countersunk look).
  5. Mounting Holes: Set the exact number of mounting screws your speaker or vent frame requires.
  6. Download & Print!

💡 My Car Audio Print Recommendations

Because these grills are often used in demanding environments (like hot car interiors or high-vibration speaker enclosures), here are my personal fabrication tips:

⚠️ Material Choice: If you are installing this in a vehicle, do not use standard PLA—it will warp on a hot summer day. I highly recommend printing in ASA or PETG for excellent heat and UV resistance. (I use PETG i had no problems even in hot summer days on 40+ degrees in the car)

  • Wall Loops: Set to at least 4 or 5 walls to ensure the thin honeycomb/mesh lines are printed solid and strong.
  • Infill: 15% (since the model is thin, the walls and top/bottom layers will make up the entire print anyway).
