Description

This module upgrades the cyberdeck by @MadHias with local, hardware-controlled tactical night vision capability. Optimized for low-light operations, the unit houses an IR-sensitive camera sensor flanked by dual high-output infrared illuminator pods, a physical status indicator, and modular hardware mounting expansions.(SWITCH AND LED ARE NOT NEEDED (OPTIONAL). Hardware Architecture & Features

  • Integrated Camera Mount & Optics: The central housing acts as a rigid tactical camera mount, positioning the IR lens perfectly between twin 850nm infrared floodlights for optimal field-of-view illumination.
  • Expansion & Co-Site Mounting: The upper trim features an integrated cold shoe mount specifically designed to hold heavy-duty tactical equipment, such as an adjustable IR spotlight or external LED panel.
  • RF Signal Management: The top plate features 3 designated antenna breakout areas (housing dual SMA RF ports and a structural tie-in), keeping high-frequency communication links clean and physically organized.

Night Vision & IR Circuit Integration

To bypass software lag and maximize reliability, the infrared night vision array is wired directly to the terminal's hardware power rails. The circuit maps directly to the Raspberry Pi 5 GPIO header using a completely hardware-switched configuration:

  • Direct Rail Power: Power is pulled straight from Pin 2 (+5V Power) and flows through a heavy-duty physical Toggle Switch to allow manual control over the night vision subsystem without terminal interaction.
  • Dual IR Illuminators: The circuit feeds two parallel-linked 850nm IR LED boards to flood the camera's field of view with invisible infrared light.
  • Current & Thermal Regulation:
    • A robust 39$\Omega$ 1W Power Resistor ($R_1$) drops the voltage and regulates current feeding into the main IR LED arrays to keep the pods operating within safe thermal limits.
    • A 330$\Omega$ 1/4W Indicator Resistor ($R_2$) steps down the current to safely power a visible Red LED (650nm) status indicator, giving the operator an immediate visual confirmation whenever the invisible IR floodlight array is live.
  • Ground Return: The entire loop ties back cleanly into Pin 6 (GND | GROUND) on the GPIO header, ensuring a stable, isolated common ground return.
