PRINT/ASSEMBLY ADVICE (READ BEFORE ASSEMBILING)

Once the plate has cooled, gently remove the supports. They’re designed to come off easily, but take extra care around the barrel. Make sure you clear the support under the breech where the barrel meets the turret.

After the supports are off, hold the connection point between the barrel and turret and move it up and down until it moves smoothly. Avoid bending the thin part of the barrel—if you must, only handle it right where it meets the turret.

When it’s moving freely, click the square pin into the lower turret section. You can press it in with needle‑nose pliers or by pushing it straight down against a table.

Next, place the top half of the turret on and press until the seam disappears. Glue isn’t required, but you can add a little along the crease if you prefer.

Finally, insert the round turret pin into the hull. It should spin easily once seated.

Historical Reference:

The Dukhov KV‑4 (Object 224) was the winning SKB‑2 entry in the spring 1941 KV‑4 competition: an enlarged KV‑series hull fitted with a single large turret mounting the 107 mm ZiS‑6 gun, heavy frontal armor, and an estimated mass in the low‑to‑mid 80‑ton range. The design emerged from a rapid, internal Kirov works contest that produced some 20–27 competing proposals—many wildly different in layout and weight—as engineers raced to counter reports of new German heavy tanks, and Dukhov’s entry is the best documented because it won and left the clearest drawings. Functionally intended as a breakthrough/counter‑heavy vehicle, the Dukhov KV‑4 traded mobility and production practicality for survivability and punch, envisaging thick frontal protection, large crews and powerful engines, but like the rest of the KV‑4 family it remained a paper project cancelled after the June 1941 shift in wartime priorities.
