M3x10 FHCS Machine Screw (20PCS) - AA188

Description

Printable version of HP's 2.5" drive isolation grommet screws used in EliteDesk and ProDesk desktops. HP ships these systems with screws for only one drive, leaving the extra bays unusable. Sure, you can buy the originals — but who buys what they can print?

The printed grommet slides into the slots of the 2.5" drive bay and is secured to the drive with a standard M3 flat head screw. Four grommets mount one drive.

Bill of Materials (per drive)

  • printed grommets
  • M3 flat head screws (FHCS), 8–10 mm length
    • I used M3×10 — with the 5.6 mm grommet, that gives ~4 mm of thread engagement in the drive, right in the sweet spot
    • M3×8 is the practical minimum (~2 mm engagement);
    • M3×12 can work, but with caution — ~6.4 mm goes into the drive, and many 2.5" drives don't have that much hole depth. Test-fit by hand and stop at any resistance, or you risk bottoming out against the drive internals.

Material Choice

  • For 2.5" HDDs: use a flexible filament (TPU, Elastan, etc.) — spinning drives vibrate, and the original HP grommets exist precisely for isolation. A rigid grommet will transfer noise and vibration to the chassis.
  • For SSDs: vibration isn't a factor, but heat is — print in PETG, ABS, or ASA. Avoid PLA: it can creep over time sitting next to a warm drive.

Print Settings

  • Layer height: 0.2 mm
  • Walls: 5 (effectively 100% infill — not required, just my taste to make it solid)
  • No supports needed
  • Print a couple of spares — they're tiny

Compatibility

Tested on HP EliteDesk 800 G2. Should fit other EliteDesk/ProDesk G1/G2 systems with the same slider-slot 2.5" bays. Not for 3.5" drives — those use the larger silver 6-32 grommet screws.

If it fits your model, drop a comment so others can confirm compatibility.
