Description

fix for subaru crosstrek / subaru impreza cup holder. Cup holder insert that secures drinks better.

I have had my car for many years, and for all that time I have disliked the cup holder design. for some reason it isnt complete circles, and has a bunch of extra room that leads to most beverage containers to be so loose, that as you turn, start,  and stop, its got a high chance of tipping. Finally I had one spill to many and started looking for commercially available solutions. I decided that with a little bit of work, I could design my own cup holder insert that fixes my issues and fits great. Took me longer than I would have liked, but im excited to share the result of this work.

A bit about my solution:

So for starters, This model was designed for use with PETG or other material that will not warp or degrade from the sun and heat its surely to be constantly subjected to.

The insert fits great in my cup holder, a 2020 Subaru Crosstrek. I'm certain it fits the 2018-2021 models for sure, you'll have to confirm for sure if it fits in other years. I'm sure it fits in the Impreza as well, as the interiors are the same.

The insert is held in just by the taper of the cup holder, and it seems to secure it great, yet allow easy removal for when you do need the larger size opening. I designed it to start a bit above the bottom of the cup holder, to allow for cup holder inserts you might be using, and the small gap at the bottom makes it easy to remove by grabbing it in the gap at the bottom.

The top of the insert falls just below the divider in between cup holders, and includes the opening for handles. I kept it at a height to roll into the radius of the cup holder, and the rim of the insert matches up to just below the trim of the cars cup holder opening.

The holder can be used in the front or back position and fits the same in either. Personally I like to use it in only my back cup holder, leaving the larger front to place items or larger drinks like Gatoraid bottles.

I tested and made many revisions in the sizing to get to the current design that im sharing. It will easily keep any normal sized can secure, yet not to tight as to stay stuck on the can when you take it out. it also fits fast food and coffee cups great. I haven't had any issues with sizing of the most common drink containers so far.

I'm including a few print profiles. my personal favourite is PETG 100% infill for a nice solid piece. for those that dont want to commit as much print time or material, I have a PETG 15% infill version.
I do not recommend it for long term use, but I know some will want it, so i have included a PLA 15% infill print profile as well. If it warps from heat in your car, please don't come back and complain as I have warned that its not the ideal material..

Boost Me (for free)

Hey! I spent a lot of time on this to share it with my fellow Subaru fans. It really helps pay for the material I used in testing the versions to get to this final model if you could be so kind as to give me a boost.
