Description

This is a 3D printable protective case for the MicoAir WiFi Link module.

The MicoAir WiFi Link is originally supplied as an exposed PCB with a bare antenna. This works fine electrically, but it is not very convenient when mounting the module on a drone, test platform, or ground station setup. The exposed PCB and antenna connector are also easier to damage during repeated handling or installation.

This model was designed by RoboFusion to make the module easier to mount, protect the PCB, and cover the antenna with a simple printed radome.

The design includes three parts:

  • Upper Housing
  • Lower Housing
  • Antenna Radome

The upper and lower housings are designed to be fixed together with 4 × M2×6 countersunk hex socket screws. Other suitable M2 screws may also work depending on your print and hardware availability. If you do not have suitable M2 screws, the upper and lower housings can also be fixed with a small amount of CA glue / super glue.

Printing Notes

The WiFi Link module can generate heat during operation, so I do not recommend printing this case with standard PLA.

The sample shown in the photos was printed with PETG HF, and the result worked well.

Recommended materials:

  • PETG
  • PETG HF
  • ASA

Not recommended:

  • Standard PLA, especially for warm environments or long operating sessions

The antenna mounting area may need support when printing. After printing, remove the support material carefully and clean up any burrs or rough edges around the antenna slot. This will make it much easier to install the antenna radome.

Hardware Required

  • 4 × M2×6 countersunk hex socket screws
    or other suitable M2 screws

Optional:

  • CA glue / super glue, if you prefer to glue the upper and lower housings instead of using screws

Designed for the MicoAir WiFi Link telemetry module.

Please note that this is a community 3D printable case designed by RoboFusion. It is not the original housing from MicoAir.
