Description
Small specific gravity tester for testing purity of precious metals. Scales not included.
Note - this may need a little practice/experimentation to perfect. The tester allows for various arrangements depending on the scales you have available.
1. Put water in the cylindrical bowl, somewhere between halfway and two thirds full - enough to immerse the test object when placed on the test tray.
2. Place the bowl on a set of digital scales (example in photos).
3. Immerse the test tray in the water, taking care to make sure the tray doesn't touch the bowl or the scales (very important - the tray must be independent of the bowl). You may need to adjust heights and distances to achieve this - some experimentation is needed!
4. When ready, Zero the scales.
5. Place the test object on the test tray, making sure it is completely immersed under water. If not, add more water or adjust the tester, then go back to step 3. Otherwise proceed to step 6.
6. Note the new weight reading from your scales.
7. Divide the weight of the test object by the reading from the scales. This is the specific gravity of the object.
