The video provides a lot of explanation — how it works, how to connect it, and how to configure it from the Blynk app. I recommend watching it before starting.
With current pricing data in Mexico, here is the complete description:
🪟 How does the system work?
This project converts any blind into a smart motorized blind controllable from physical buttons or from your cell phone with the Blynk IoT app. An ESP32 receives the commands (up, down, stop, auto) and sends them to a DC motor through a TB6612FNG driver which protects the microcontroller from the motor's current.
The system remembers how long it takes to fully open or close, respects a maximum opening limit to prevent the blind from tangling, and saves all that configuration in the ESP32's memory even if the power goes out. From the app, you can see everything the system is doing in real-time, just as if you had the Arduino Serial Monitor open.
🛒 Necessary Components and Estimated Budget — AliExpress 2026
| Component | Description | USD | MXN approx. |
|---|---|---|---|
| ESP32 DevKit V1 | WiFi + Bluetooth Microcontroller | $4.50 – $7.50 | $88 – $146 |
| TB6612FNG Driver | DC motor controller, 1.2A, up to 15V | $0.80 – $1.50 | $16 – $29 |
| LM2596 DC-DC Converter | Adjustable step-down regulator 1.5V–35V, powers the ESP32 from the same motor source | $0.50 – $1.20 | $10 – $23 |
| 12V DC Motor | Motor to move the blind (depending on size and weight) | $3.00 – $12.00 | $58 – $234 |
| 12V Power Supply | For the motor (minimum 1-2A) | $3.50 – $8.00 | $68 – $156 |
| 4 Push Buttons | Up, Down, Stop, Auto | $0.50 – $1.00 | $10 – $20 |
| Active Buzzer | Audible confirmation signals | $0.30 – $0.80 | $6 – $16 |
| Cables and Breadboard | Connections and support | $1.50 – $3.00 | $29 – $58 |
Estimated Total: $14.60 – $35 USD / $285 – $682 MXN
Prices include free standard shipping from AliExpress. The most variable component is the motor, which depends on the size and weight of your blind. The LM2596 converter eliminates the need for a second power supply for the ESP32, as it reduces the 12V voltage from the motor directly to the 5V needed by the board.
💡 Why the LM2596?
Instead of using two separate power supplies (one 12V for the motor and one 5V for the ESP32), the LM2596 converter takes the same 12V from the motor, regulates it, and delivers exactly what the ESP32 needs. Result: a single power source feeds the entire system, wiring is cleaner, and the total cost is lower.
📱 Required Software (all free)
- Arduino IDE — for uploading code to the ESP32
- Blynk IoT — mobile app for remote control (App Store / Google Play)
- Blynk Cloud — web platform for configuring widgets (blynk.clou
📸 Was the video not clear enough?
Inside this file, you will find photos of my actual installation to give you a clearer visual reference of how everything is assembled.
This project started as a personal automation challenge and turned into something I am very proud of. None of this would be possible without the incredible maker community that shares, builds, and improves each other's projects every day — and of course Bambu Lab, whose printers make it much easier to bring ideas like this to life.
